The Fine Print

Connections (ISSN 0226-1776), the official journal of the International Network for Social Network Analysis (INSNA), is published two or three times annually by the International Network for Social Network Analysis (INSNA). The journal is edited by Tom Valente and Bill Richards (See also) and published by Bill Richards. Editorial offices are located at the University of Southern California's Department of Preventive Medicine 1000 Fremont Ave., Unit #8, Building A, Room 5133, Alhambra, CA 91803. Tel: (626) 457-6678; fax: (626) 457-6699. Email: tvalente@usc.edu or insna@sfu.ca

Mission. Connections is an official publication of INSNA. Its primary purpose is to support network analysis in general and INSNA members in particular by providing a method of pooling and sharing news about the membership, tools for teaching and research, data for analysis and results of scientific investigations. Wherever possible, items referenced in CONNECTIONS (such as data and software) are made available electronically via our web site. The web site provides access to a directory of members’ email addresses, network datasets, software programs, and other items that lend themselves to electronic storage. In addition, the web site provides updated information on upcoming conferences.

Policy. Connections welcomes short articles, data, software, course materials, news and advertisements dealing with network analysis. Articles are peer-reviewed and will be edited for content and style. Authors are automatically granted the right to republish their material in other journals or books, provided appropriate citation is made.

Advantages to publishing in Connections. Why publish in Connections rather than a "real" journal? First, Connections is a "real" journal. All articles are subjected to the standard peer review process that you know and love. Second, publishing in Connections does not prevent you from publishing the same material elsewhere; we automatically grant permission. Third, hardcopy circulation of Connections is over 1,100. The web versions of articles in Connections receive a lot of attention: articles in recent issues were viewed more than 34,000 times in 2005; more than 45,000 times in 2006.

Instructions for authors.

1) All materials must be submitted in electronically via email, to both Tom Valente at
tvalente@usc.edu and Bill Richards at insna@sfu.ca.

2) Initial submissions for review should, if possible, combine all tables and figures in one file in MS Word; Wordperfect; or PDF. If you use MSWord, please keep your use of styles and formatting codes to an absolute minimum.

3) Accepted papers should save figures in a separate file for each graphic image as .gif, .bmp, .png, .jpg, .tif, .psd, cdr, .wmg, or .eps format (take your pick).

4) References should follow APA style. If you follow the style used in this issue of Connections for your references section, publication of your manuscript will not be delayed.

Subscription. The standard subscription fee is US$50 per volume ($35 for students, $60 for institutions). Subscribing to the current volume is synonymous with obtaining current membership in INSNA. Checks must be made payable in US dollars to "SFU - INSNA". Wire transfers are not permitted, but Visa and Mastercard (or Eurocard) are accepted. Click here, fill out the form, and click on "Submit".

News. Please send news about yourself, other networkers, or networks in the media to Barry Wellman at the University of Toronto. Email to: wellman@epas.toronto.edu

Abstracts and book reviews that you would like to bring to the attention to other networkers should be sent to Connections at the addresses above.

Copyright. Connections is protected by both United States Copyright Law and International Treaty provisions. All rights are reserved. It is CONNECTIONS policy to automatically grant authors the right to republish articles in other journals.
