Aims and Scope:
Behavioral, Economic and Socio-cultural Computing (BESC) has been emerged as a new scientific field that studies effective methodologies, techniques and technical tools for representing, modeling, analyzing, understanding and managing human behaviors, economic phenomenon and social and cultural characteristics in the world. Unlike traditional behavior, economic and social science, which mainly focuses on qualitative and explicit behavior, economic and social appearance and drivers, BESC intends to support explicit behavioral, economic and societal involvement through a conversion from transactional entity spaces to behavior/economic/socio-cultural feature spaces in various socially-centric application domains.
Main topics and quality control
BESC conference (rebranded to "Behavioral and Social Computing" in 2021, (http://besc-conf.org/2021/) is to provide a premier forum and platform for academic researchers and industry practitioners from data mining, statistics and analytics, business and marketing, finance and politics, and behavioral, economic, social and psychological sciences with the objectives to present updated research efforts and progresses on foundational and emerging interdisciplinary topics of BESC, exchange new ideas and identify future research directions. BESC has now been formally endorsed by IEEE Computational Intelligence Society as full sponsorship. As an endeavor following up the BESC 2020 conference, specifically, the objectives of the proposed special issue are:

- Information Management and Information Systems (IS)
- Computing and Social Psychology in the context of Covid-19

Note: This special issue will build gradually, with articles being added to the contents list online as soon as they are ready.

Introduction of the guest editor(s)
Lin Li is a Professor in School of Computer Science and Technology, Wuhan University of Technology. Dr. Li received her MSc and BSc degrees in electrical engineering from Wuhan University of Technology, in 1999 and 2002, respectively, and Ph.D. degree in information science and technology from the University of Tokyo, Japan, in 2009. Her research interest covers Data analytics, Machine learning, Information retrieval, Web personalization & Recommendation, Social media mining, Natural language processing, and so forth. She has published over 100 research papers, including 20+ journal papers and papers at top-tier conferences such as AAAI, ICDM, ICMR, etc. She serves as a reviewer for TKDE, WWWJ, KBS, ACM TOIS, TOMM and ACM TIST.

Yidong Li is the Vice-Dean and a professor in the School of Computer and Information Technology at Beijing Jiaotong University. Dr. Li received his B.Eng. degree in electrical and electronic engineering from Beijing Jiaotong University in 2003, and M.Sci. and Ph.D. degrees in computer science from the University of Adelaide, in 2006 and 2010, respectively. Dr. Li's research interests include big data analysis, privacy preserving and information security, data mining, social computing and intelligent transportation. Dr. Li has published more than 100 research papers in various journals (such as IEEE Trans. on Information Forensics & Security, IEEE Trans. on Intelligent Transportation Systems), and refereed conferences. He has also co-authored/co-edited 5 books (including proceedings) and contributed several book chapters. He has organized several international conferences and workshops and has also served as a program committee member for several major international conferences such as PAKDD, NFOSCALE, WAC, SAC, PDCAT, DANTH, and PAAP.

Xiaohui Tao is a Senior IEEE Member, an active researcher in AI, and Associate Professor (Computing) in School of Sciences, University of Southern Queensland (USQ), Australia. His research interests include data analytics, machine learning, knowledge engineering, information retrieval, and health informatics. During his research career, Tao made contributions to the areas such as Knowledge Engineering, Text Mining and Information Retrieval and Health informatics. The research outcomes have been published on many top-tier journals (e.g., IEEE TKDE, KBS and WWWJ) and conferences (e.g., ICDE, CIKM, PAKDD and WISE). A/Prof. Tao is an Endeavour Research Fellow in 2015-16 and was awarded with Research Award by Department of Mathematics and Computing, USQ in 2012 and the Dean’s Award for Academic Excellence by Faculty of Science and Technology at QUT in 2009. Dr. Tao has been active in professional services. He has served PC Chair in WI ‘17 and ‘18 and BESC ‘18. He has been an editor or guest editor in many journals including WIJ, WWWJ, and INFFUS, and also been a regular reviewer in many top-ranking journals such as TKDE, TPDS, Neural Networks, and Knowledge Based Systems.
