ICWSM '21

Monday, June 7, 2021 to Thursday, June 10, 2021

Event Details

Registration for the 15th International AAAI Conference on Web and Social Media (ICWSM), which takes place 7-10 June 2021, is open! This year poses a unique opportunity to network with peers in computational social science, stay abreast of current research, and socialise with your favorite collaborators -- all without leaving the comfort of your home.

What is ICWSM?

Join us in celebrating fifteen years of the ICWSM community in this virtual conference. What we have in store for you are some of ICWSM’s traditional sessions, but also some new events -- and a very special announcement. If you’re not familiar with ICWSM, we’re one of the premier venues for computational social science, and publish papers, posters, and demos that draw upon network science, machine learning, computational linguistics, sociology, communication, and political science. More information on this year’s conference can be found here:https://www.icwsm.org/.

The Conference Program

For this year’s conference, we have two amazing keynote speakers, Dr Rediet Abebe (University of California, Berkeley) and Professor Virgilio Almeida (Federal University of Minas Gerais, Brazil and Berkman Klein Center at Harvard University). Our main programme contains a selection of over 100 papers on topics ranging from misinformation to music and politics, and from COVID to memes, online bias and conversation health; as well as three panels on the topics of publishing your research at ICWSM, women in social computing, and global research connections. There are also a range of workshops and tutorials before the main conference (i.e., on the 7th June) on topical areas such as emojis, social threats, hate speech, healthcare analytics and computational journalism. Finally, we have a data challenge that seeks to bring together researchers from across disciplines to solve societally-relevant problems together as a community (using freely available datasets).

Registration, Subsidies and Open Opportunties

Registration information for the conference can be found here (https://www.icwsm.org/2021/index.html#registration), and contains a range of options, allowing participants to sign up for only the first day, or for the full conference. There are also early registration discounts available; early registration is open until May 7, 2021.

Addtionally, this year, we are happy to announce a number of new registration opportunites to increase global representation, diversity and inclusivity at ICWSM. Firstly, we have a number of full fee waiver scholarships for underrepresented groups and regions, which can be applied for here: https://www.icwsm.org/2021/index.html#scholarships (deadline May 10, 2021). We encourage you, as appropriate, to apply for these as they are excellent opportunies for those not typically able to attend the conference. Secondly, general registration is also uniquely subsidized, with subsidies (50% discount) for attendees from South America and Africa. We notice that these are regions where there is a plethora of excellent research, and would love our colleagues to join us at this year’s event.

We look forward to seeing you at ICWSM’21!
