POLNET Barcelona. Social Network Analysis
The POLNET school has been offering an extensive range of social network analysis (SNA) courses for two decades now. SNA is a promising methodological tool and theoretical approach and its use has increased exponentially in recent years: currently, it offers numerous quantitative applications in the field of political, sociological, and organizational sciences. Hence, our intention is to provide the participants with knowledge of basic functions of social network analysis such as centrality analysis (which actors are central in a given network?), subgroup analysis (do specific actors share a particularly large amount of connections with each other?). In addition to an overview of theories and data in political science network research, the most important network analysis techniques are presented. A central component of the course is its practical introduction to the programs R, DNA, Visone, and NetLogo. Moreover, we cover advanced tools such as ABM (Agent Based Modeling) or Discourse Network Analysis (DNA).
This workshop is suitable for graduate students (Master’s and doctoral levels), as well as for researchers with an interest in the empirical study of social and political networks.
The POLNET 2023 team consists of highly qualified International lecturers, who bring in their expertise and knowledge on the subject. The POLNET faculty includes Felix Bossner, Carlos Bravo, Eva Fernandez Guzman Grassi, Jacint Jordana, Lukáš Lehotský, Miranda Lubbers, Melanie Nagel, Petr Ocelík, Volker Schneider, Annie Waldherr.
